In your opinion, what is the best material for a patio on a lawn?
I would like to install a patio on our lawn for the purpose of setting out furniture and a grill for an area to entertain. All of this, without having to move anything for maintenance purposes, such as mowing or weed whacking grass between paving stones or slabs of slate. Or, have you used either of these by the piece applications and perhaps put small stones in the cracks?
I considered a poured concrete slab with a design imprint and one without an imprint.
AND
I thought about paving stones with that sand filler between the stones that turns hard after watering.
Has anyone had any experience with either of these patio applications. I do not need installation instructions as I will be hiring a professional to do the work. I just need to know any personal opinions on pros and cons of either application or to hear if you have any other suggestions.
The area is gong to be a pretty decent size on level ground, about 15′ by 20′. My objective is not having to move the outdoor furniture for maintenance on a weekly basis, like mowing. Of course power washing once a year will be done.

I would suggest flag stones, I prefer the look and ability for more customization with the design and layout. Stamped concrete can be a good alternative but can be quite slippery when wet, when glazed. Also if the concrete is not coloured throughout the entire mix any chips are glaring as you will see the white concrete beneath.

There is a newer material now that’s like plastic, which is great because wood rots and requires staining etc…. this is a bit pricey, but worth it in the end, ask your contractor.
Lay black plastic down lay your paver,s pour sand or pea gravel on them brush it out,
I just spray vegetation killer on mine a few times during the spring and summer
I have cobblestone designs on my patio. I like it and it matches with the chairs and grill that I have which I got here by the way http://charbroilpatiogrills.com/
Flagstone or pavers. Pavers are common for patios but since they come in various cuts and hues, they’re great. Also it depends on the patio furniture and design you have in mind. Traditional patio or modern patio? Traditional is mostly stone and wrought iron while the more modern design has sleek patio furniture in bright colors and geometric designs.
